Phil Smiley, PGA Head Golf Professional

A Virginia native, Phil is a 2006 graduate of Methodist University where he earned his degree in Business Administration through their PGA Professional Golf Management program. He served internships at four prominent Clubs in Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina, plus has been an Assistant Professional at Palm Valley Country Club in Palm Desert, CA, The Club at Osprey Cove in St. Mary’s GA, Champion Hills Club in Hendersonville, NC, and Royal New Kent Golf Club in Providence Forge, VA. He comes to us from the Wilmington, North Carolina Area where he was the Head Golf Professional for the past 7 years at Carolina National Golf Club.  Through those diverse assignments Phil has gained outstanding experience in customer service, event development and promotion, along with excellent teaching and merchandising skills.


Corey Fitzgerald, Assistant Golf Professional

A native of Central New York, Corey was introduced to the game at an early age by his father and grandfather.  As a junior he played in the National Drive, Chip, and Putt and qualified for the Regional and National levels.  Playing well in High School, Corey earned a full scholarship to Dominican College just north of New York City.  After his freshmen year of college, Corey decided to serve his country and joined the U.S. Army where he spent 5 years serving all over the world.  While serving he finished his college degree and once back in the states started playing golf by competing in the Golf Channel Amateur Tour and at local state events.   He took a job as Assistant Golf Professional at Deerfield Golf Club in Newark, Delaware where he learned customer service, tournament operations, and began his love for teaching beginners and juniors.  Corey is currently enrolled in the PGA PGM Program - Level 1.  Coming to us from the Philadelphia area, Corey is joined by his wife Catlin.  Corey enjoys cycling, motocross, and playing competitive golf. 

 

Jimmy Shaw, Assistant Golf Professional

Coming from and a native of Oklahoma City, Jimmy’s family has deep southern ties.  His dad is originally from Sumter, SC and Shaw Air Force Base is named after his grandfather’s first cousin.  His mother graduated from Converse College and father graduated from Presbyterian College.  Jimmy is also a 2003 graduate of Presbyterian College in Clinton.  Jimmy spent 10 years playing professional golf and decided to transition to the golf business side with an Assistant Golf Professional position and Lead Teaching Instructor at Rose Creek Golf Club in Edmond, OK.  His students have ranged from beginners to college players, all the way up to players in their 70’s and 80’s.  He has also helped many juniors advance their games to be able to compete within the college ranks.  Jimmy’s family includes his wife, Afton, and 3 Children; Eveleigh, Ford, and Reaves.
